WORK IN WAR ZONES

Justice Rising targets areas with active conflict and unrest.

We’re drawn to the places that are often written off or deemed “impossible” due to ongoing instability. After years of sitting with people during war and hearing stories from refugees, victims of rape and child soldiers, our hearts were broken over the devastation. It was from that place of compassion that our projects were launched.

LEADERSHIP

During one of our first trips to the Congo, we met a family who had fled in the middle of the night from war that had come upon their village. Gunshots filled the air, acting as the alarm that they had to leave everything they owned and find new safety. Fast.

They ran through the night, into the next day and through another night, until they finally found refuge in a camp just outside of Goma. When we met them, the children were traumatized; the mother hadn’t made it and the father struggled to cope with his new reality. We knew after hearing their story and dozens of stories just like them, that love had to move us to action. To us, it may have looked like education sponsorship, but to them, it was a way of finding safety, normalcy, vision and a fresh start.

We believe that one person can make a difference, and a community of people can change the world.

Our aim is not to invest in a quick fix, but to build foundations for long-term growth in communities. To see our projects become self-sustaining to eventually work ourselves out of a job.

The faces of those in need has forever stayed etched in our mind and it’s because of those individuals we press in in spite of the danger.

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.
